ECHOS OF THE PAST.

EMBRACING TECHNOLOGY TO BRING STORIES TO LIFE.

02.

CHALLENGES.

USING TECHNOLOGY TO DEEPEN CONNECTIONS WITH HISTORY AND EACH OTHER.

In an age dominated by mobile phones, the NOCTURN projects—The Cabinet of Lost Experiences, Look Up, and The Long Walk—aim to counteract digital isolation.

By integrating a museum's collection with interactive storytelling, I address the social concern of technology's impact on personal interactions, transforming mobile devices from distractions into gateways for immersive engagement and shared experiences.

/01

The challenge was to create a seamless experience where dance films unfold in harmony with the user's movement through space, making each interaction feel personal and unique.

/02

Designing a system that rewards users' physical engagement with an intricate animated projection, encouraging exploration through movement.

/03

Developing an experience that uses a mat sensor to trigger narrative progress in a looping film. The challenge was to ensure that the story remains compelling with each step.

INNOVATION THROUGH INTERACTION.

03.

The solution was a custom-developed app, paired with strategically placed iBeacons, to guide users through an interactive story.

The narrative unfolded as users moved through physical spaces, with each location unlocking a new chapter of the story.

A JOURNEY UNINTERRUPTED.

04.

In "The Long Walk," participants' steps on a mat sensor advanced a one-take film of a dance in the woods, but stopping caused the film to rewind. An iPad nearby simulated distractions like calls and texts, testing the resolve to ignore them and continue the journey.

This setup emphasised mindfulness over digital interruptions, making the act of walking a metaphor for progress through focus.

ENGAGEMENT REIMAGINED.

05.

"Look Up" utilised a Kinect sensor to create an interactive space where participants' movements controlled the projection of a narrative on the walls around them. The more they moved, the more of the story was revealed, rewarding physical engagement with visual storytelling.

This experience encouraged users to literally look up from their devices and engage with the world in motion, blending technology with physical activity to unlock a unique narrative journey.

THE CLIENT SAYS.

07.

Having NOCTURN at West Berkshire Museum brought new and different people over the threshold and made them think about this unique historic building as something that is important to the here and now.

BEYOND AN APP:
A NEW WAY TO EXPERIENCE STORIES LASTING IMPACT ON CLEARCUT.

This project has not only introduced a novel way of storytelling but also set a new standard for interactive experiences in heritage settings.

The use of app and iBeacons to weave a narrative into the fabric of the physical world has opened up new possibilities for engaging audiences, making the story not just something to be read but something to be lived.

Are you ready to explore the boundaries of storytelling?

Let's embark on a journey to redefine narrative experiences, creating stories that resonate deeply with audiences and invite them into worlds beyond imagination.
